When the goddess Aine first created the witches she bestowed upon the first six the ability to bring life into existence just as she had. This gift shouldn't be surprising for those whom understand what the first six witches were. They were concepts--ideas that Aine believed were necessary for the survival of a species--as much as they were actual witches. They were literally the first witch gods and goddesses before others ascended into that position. This fact was forgotten by the time any other witch ascended into godhood, but that is a story for another day.

The first six did not create any other races at first. They were content to live within a world where only witches roamed, but curiosity and need eventually changed that. One by one each of the original six created their own race. How each of these races came to be were unique to the one creating them. For nature, it was need that convinced him to create the fairies. He needed a race that understood its ebb and flow just as he did. He needed a race to be connected to it just as he was. So, they can cause plants to grow and die, and the seasons to change. Most of all he needed someone to defend his dominion against those that wish to destroy it.

Nature actually only created one fairy named Irial, but that was all that was needed. The lone fae wandered the forest for awhile, but it wasn't long before he stumbled upon two group of people fighting over which one of them should have the right to destroy the forest. This was not something that Irial would stand for, and he leapt into action. He commanded the forest to render their enemies still. It didn't take these two groups long to find themselves entangled within the plant life of the forest, and any effort to break free only tighten their bonds. A fact that pleased Irial to no end. He watched them struggle for awhile before making his presence known.

Not knowing he was the one that ordered the forest to attack them, they pleaded with him to help them get down, and when they came to realize his role in it all they pleaded with him to let them go. They vowed to leave the forest and never return. These words went upon deaf ear. Irial wasn't interested in empty promises nor did he believe they should receive such a light punishment for their crimes. Their war might not have completely destroyed the forest, but it had damaged it greatly. They needed to pay.

Irial slit the men's throats, and from their blood other fairies sprung into being. There was another way fae gained life that way, and it was done by Irial planting his seeds inside the women's womb. He willed those seeds to grow fast--much faster then their bodies could handle--and when they gave birth a few hours later each one of them died. The babies grew into an adult within the next hour. Irial realized that his work wasn't done. There were still those within the forest that wished it harm.

Wasting no time, Irial and the other fae spread out into the forest, hunting and killing those with ill will towards it. However, in order for those outside the forest to understand what fate awaits them if they enter the fairies dominion with ill intent a few were allowed to live. Some of them returned with armies---believing with bigger forces they could crush the fairies. Irial was more than happy to prove them wrong, and again when they foolish thought challenging him outside the trees would ensure their victory. The earth and its various life from--both plants and animals--obey his commands.

Eventually, Irial's message got across, and people stopped entering the forest with ill intent. Irial and his subjects had greatly enjoyed the hunts, and so Irial decided that twice a year--as he named it--a wild hunt would be held. The fae would spread out into the forest, hunting and killing any within the forest who were not native it. Irial, however, wasn't unfair in his game, because unlike those others that Irial and his subject hunted and killed he allowed these quarries victory against the horde. All they needed to do was exit the forest before the horde descended upon them. This was, of course, easier said than done.

Irial divided his subjects into six courts. Four of them represented each of the seasons--Summer, Winter, Spring and fall. These fae help usher in the seasons across the lands. They are most powerful and active during their respected seasons, and all but the most powerful ones of their courts will hibernate when it isn't their seasons. The fifth court duties were to look over the wild life. They are to keep them nice and cozy during the winter, and coax them out from their slumber when spring arrives. Most of all they are to protect them against any and all that wish their charges harm. Aside from Irial, they are the only fairies whom can call a wild hunt.

The last court, which is ruled by Irial is responsible for making sure the other courts remember their duties and obey the fairies laws. They will not hesitate to remove or completely destroy those fae that doesn't remember their place. They also ensure that the other courts are protected. Guarding the season courts during their hibernation, and coming to their aid when they come upon enemies that is too strong for them. The fairies did not remain just within the forest. They spread out into other lands, and made homes for themselves within these places.

Many years passed, and the creator of the fairies got together with fate, whom created the mermaids. They agreed that their two species should join together, and they betrothed Irial to the mermaid queen Sereia--in spite what either of them wanted. At first, Irial was displeased with this arrangement. He wanted nothing to do with the idea, but changed his mind when he finally met her. Irial have had many lovers throughout his existence, but none called to him the way this female did. He wanted her. Not just as his wife nor as another woman to bear him children, but as his queen. However, they didn't get married.

Sereia refused to do as her marker commanded--even if she found herself drawn to Irial. A truth, however, she will deny if anyone asks her. Irial understands why she is afraid. Throughout her existence, there has only been one man--one being--that she had submitted to. She knows if she marries him that the one will become two. Not only that, she would submit to him in ways she never submitted to her creator. So, she does everything within her powers to avoid him. For the most part, he allows her to have her space, but he appears to every once in awhile to remind her that he haven't given up on the idea of them together as husband and wife.

Countless years have passed, and Sereia proving herself to be extremely stubborn still haven't admitted the truth. It's okay with Irial. He will not give up until he has won, but he has not pinned for her in celibacy he has taken many lovers over the years, and even married some of them just as she has.
